Phone Home Mr. Carter.

BLIZZARD outside. Wayne inside. This pen drawing of Lil Wayne is from a photo in Rolling Stone. I briefly considered figuring out how to mail it to him in the pin. But I figure he's flooded with letters from teenage girls.

FINISHED MONSTER

Here I have you some in progress pictures as well as the final state of the painting. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to starting the next one.
I started out by muting out all the edges and laying it some darker values. I started with burnt umber and then a layer of prussian blue over that. It creates a wonderful black. The next step was getting the surface some color or another. So lighter blues and darker greens figured out their place and the obvious contrast to that was the orange and yellows. I've noticed the something about the way i have been doing compositions. darker tones separated from warmer light tones by dancing line of highlights. Usually the flow of highlights stretches and falls across the composition in what i find to be a natural pattern.

Clamp monster becomes Primer Monster.

The clamp monster, after much intensive sanding, became the primer monster. I can't wait to start painting on this guy.

Holy cut out painting #2 and clampMonsters.

For now, this project of building a multi layered cut out painting. So far it is nothing but clamping glue and wood together. The paint part is very away.

This is my second cutout painting. much more successful than the first. feels smoother. The shadow play on the wall behind the painting is nice.

this painting is holy. lol.

Not sure how I feel about what I did here. In my head it made sense. I may later take another shot at this and make it a more seamless transformation of materials. hope you like it.

another fake frame.

This painting is kinda of a sibling of the last one I did. The last one being warm, this one is not cool. but it is done in green. In person the vibrancy of the yellows in the green pop more.

studio re arranging and such.

In this picture we have two paintings in various stages of not done. I spend a lot of time staring at this scenario. Part of painting is a lot of waiting for crap to dry.

My studio has got a serious leaking problem. So I rearranged and removed some stuff. It is better for my work flow. I love my windows. They make really nice light.
